New York Mets Make Roster Moves

In a flurry of roster moves, the New York Mets have placed designated hitter J.D. Martinez on the paternity list and recalled outfielder DJ Stewart from Triple-A Syracuse.

Martinez's Absence

Martinez, who is expecting his first child, will be away from the team indefinitely.

The 35-year-old has been a key contributor for the Mets this season, batting .290 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.

Stewart's Return

Stewart, 29, was optioned to Syracuse on May 15 after struggling offensively in the early going.

The former Baltimore Oriole is batting .267 with 4 home runs and 18 RBIs in 32 games at Triple-A.

Mets Outlook

The Mets are currently 24-23, good for third place in the NL East.

They will face the Philadelphia Phillies in a four-game series starting tonight at Citi Field.
