Early Life and Playing Career
Roberto De Zerbi was born on 6 June 1979 in Brescia, Italy. He began his football career as a player, playing for several Italian clubs including AC Milan, Salernitana, and Foggia. He retired as a player in 2014.
Managerial Career
De Zerbi began his managerial career in 2015, taking charge of Serie C club Foggia. He then led Sassuolo to the Serie A in 2018 and guided them to consecutive top-half finishes in the league. In 2021, he was appointed manager of Shakhtar Donetsk, leading them to a Ukrainian Premier League title before leaving due to the Russian invasion.
Brighton and Hove Albion
In September 2022, De Zerbi was appointed manager of Brighton and Hove Albion. He guided the club to their highest-ever Premier League finish of ninth place during the 2022-23 season.
Departure from Brighton
On 20 May 2024, De Zerbi announced his departure from Brighton after the end of the 2022-23 season. The departure reportedly stemmed from irreconcilable differences between him and the club's board.
